Consignment Vs. Garage Sale

We all love a garage sale right?  Okay, maybe not.  How many of you have spent weeks digging in your basements, crawl spaces, attics, closets and cupboards collecting all that "stuff" you have been holding onto for years, in order to have one heck of a garage sale?  Wait there's more...next you spend several more weeks pricing and organizing it, so you can sit in your garage in the 100 degree heat for at least five hours a day, to sell to people who offer you less than half of the marked price!  We have all done it and been frustrated by the whole process in the end!!  I know there are a few who love having garage sales, but most of us would rather be sitting on the beach, sipping on a cocktail in our spare time.

I do occasionally get a customer that argues if they sell the items themselves they will make more money.  Well, let's consider this for a moment.  By selling the item themselves they may make more, however, how much did you really make when you consider the time and effort you put into preparing the items for sale?  Even if you opt not to do a garage sale and choose to advertise on Craigslist or Ebay, you are still putting a lot of time and effort into it.  For example, it can take hours to take pictures, download them, and write a catchy ad that will sooner than later end up on page 100 of your category.  Not to mention the part where you need to make yourself available to every stranger who wants to come inside your home to view your sale items and all your "not for sale" valuables as well!!!

What sounds appealing to you?  The first option of a garage sale and all the work and time it takes to prepare for it?  Perhaps the second option...Craigslist which involves more preparation and the occasional strange person?  I don't know about you, but I think that option three is best!!!  Which is dropping your items off at Embrace, letting us tag and merchandise and care for them while they on our sales floor, while you take care of more important things...like, as I stated before, sipping a slushy concoction at the beach!!!

See you at the store soon!!
